What Is a Work Task Analysis?

A Work Task Analysis identifies the physical details of a job to create a right fit between the job and employee. In short, an analysis will provide the exact requirements necessary to perform a job safely.

Whether you have a manufacturing facility, retail store or commercial office space, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) defines and seeks to “assure safe and healthy working conditions for working men and women by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance.” [Source: OSHA]

The McClure Ergonomics 5-Step Process

Employee Interview

We consider the employee interview to be one of the most critical steps in our investigative process. It’s important to speak to staff members at each job level to gain an understanding of both their daily needs and concerns while on the job.

Observation of Staff/Workers

During your facility visit, we will observe your staff and workers while they perform their job functions. We will take note of all physical demands and cognitive tasks, any areas of concern as well as capacity for possible improvement.

Our observation includes monitoring the following activities:

  • Skills necessary for job performance
  • Physical job demands
  • Repetitive tasks
  • Work posture
  • External forces
  • External vibrations
  • Task frequency
  • Task duration
  • Contact stress
  • Finger stress / impacts
  • Hand stress / impacts
  • Elbow stress / impacts
  • Shoulder stress / impacts
  • Neck stress / impacts
  • Back stress / impacts
  • And more!

Photographic Documentation

We take the time to photograph your work stations and other areas as well as your employees at work performing everyday and occasional job duties.

Record Measurements

While visiting your facility, we will measure the weight of any objects (e.g., those that need to be lifted or moved), distances to travel on foot or by other means, heights that need to be climbed or accessed, as well as push/pull forces, and any other items of importance for a particular job function.

Ergonomic Report

Every client receives a detailed report that outlines the physical requirements to perform the job function in question. McClure Ergonomics Consulting will suggest any changes or upgrades needed to provide for and ensure the utmost safety for each worker in question. We consider all special needs and circumstances. And because no two jobs or employers are alike, no two reports are alike. Your report will detail the skills and steps to every job process, the best cost-effective solutions for your company. And your report will be unique to your business, your facility, and your employees.
